长期致力于推动我国心血管疾病临床技术革新和科研成果转化,创造了多个心脏病诊治上的“全国首例”和“上海第一”,他对“心肌桥”的突破性发现,更是震惊了医学界,他在血管内超声研究、新型冠脉支架研发、支架内再狭窄防治等领域取得一系列突破性成果,为提升我国心血管病学领域的国际学术地位作出了突出贡献。
在介入性心脏病学及血管内超声领域中作出的贡献受到国际学者的高度评价,在国际杂志发表了200多篇论文,其中近1/3被SCI收录,主编有关血管内超声方面的著作2部,其中1部在国外出版。参加编写介入性心脏病学书8部。在德国期间独立申请到2项科研项目,共30多万马克。
参加合作科研项目5项,共290万马克。作为导师独立培养博士研究生12名(6名已毕业,获得博士学位)。主办2次国际学术会议,多次在大型国际会议上担任主持和分会主席。对心肌肌桥的新发现在美国Stanford大学的讲学中被称为"葛氏现象",对心肌肌桥的新发现改变了对有些类型心绞痛的治疗措施。1996年发明的可视冠脉激光成形术受到国际同行的重视,可望将成为治疗冠心病的又一良好手段。
在过去数年中曾被多次丹麦Aahus大学,意大利超声协会,希腊心脏病协会,希腊Patras大学,南斯拉夫心脏病学会,英国爱丁堡大学,美国Birmingham大学,韩国Pusan大学,德国的多所大学,欧洲心脏病学会,亚太地区介入性心脏病学会,国际超声大会,国际冠心病大会及中国的多所大学和大会邀请做专题报告。并被选为美国心脏病学院院士,欧洲心脏病学会院士,1998年世界500名最有影响的科学家。
葛均波是国际心脏病大会顾问委员会的唯一华人。还被聘为中国第四军医大学及南京医科大学客座教授,同济医科大学心脏病研究所荣誉顾问,原上海医科大学华山医院学术顾问。曾在第七届Essen-Mayo-Mainz大会上获一等奖,在第二届国际超声心动图大会优秀论文一等奖。
过去数年来,国际上对冠心病介入再狭窄机理方面存在着争议,他通过研究发现是斑块的增生而不是血管的挛缩是介入术后再狭窄的主要原因,有关的论文引起了国际同行的高度重视,对冠心病的治疗方面正向着缩小残余狭窄的方向努力,也验证了该观点的准确性。
他致力于冠心病病人心肌微循环灌注障碍方面的研究,他对冠状动脉血流缓慢综合征的研究阐述了假性冠状动脉血流储备正常的机制,并被邀在华盛顿召开的第一届心脏病大会上做专题讲座,是在国际心血管界成就卓著的华人。

承担数项重要课题,为国家211工程项目负责人之一;上海临床医学中心负责人之一;国家863计划项目(药物涂层支架在冠心病应用的研制和开发)项目负责人;国家重点基础研究发展规划973子项目(心脑血管疾病发病和防治的基础研究炎症感染因素在心脑血管疾病中的作用)项目负责人;上海市医学发展重点基金研究课题(疑难高危冠心病诊疗优化方案的研究)项目负责人;上海市科委发展基金(血管树突状细胞与动脉粥样硬化免疫机制的研究)项目负责人,并有国家教委课题、上海市曙光计划课题、特聘教授配套课题等,还负责上海市医学领先专业重点学科课题冠心病部分的科研工作。
长期从事冠心病介入诊治方面的工作,为国际血管内超声在冠心病诊疗中的应用作出了杰出贡献,尤其是对心肌肌桥、冠状动脉综合征方面的研究引起国际学术界的高度重视,对心肌肌桥血流特点的新发现改变了对有些类型心绞痛的治疗措施。
